Lee Mead, who was catapulted to fame back in 2007 when he won the role of Joseph in the TV show Any Dream Will Do, is currently in the middle of an 11 date UK tour “My Band and Me” and I managed to catch his show “My Band and Me” at the Grove theatre in Dunstable last Thursday evening.
Lee took the audience on a fantastic journey through his career of West End Shows and touring productions, by performing songs from Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Wicked and Legally Blonde, Phantom Of the Opera, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and a song from a new show Lee will be starring in – Fat Friends The Musical.
Amongst the well known fan-favourites, Lee also sang some legendary pop hits, each one introduced with a personal note – “With our without You” by U2, Tom Jones’ cover of Prince’s top hit “Kiss”, “Painted Black” by the Rolling Stones and John Legend’s “All of me” to name a few. This was the first time I had seen Lee live and his voice really suited these songs and the audience reacted with great enthusiasm – in the interval, I overheard a number of conversations expressing their delight at the mix of music.
The band were great musicians and Lee chatted and joked with his fans throughout the show and afterwards spent time signing autographs and taking the obligatory “selfie”. It was a great night out, Lee demonstrated with ease the strength and versatility of his vocals with the incredible playlist.
If you would like to see Lee, amongst the tour dates, he is playing locally at the Stables in Wavendon Milton Keynes on 1st October 2021.
