Drag Race UK is back for season 3 and Leighton Buzz radio’s glad to see RuPaul and the UK queens back on our TVs. Not only is RuPaul a cultural icon but did you know that she’s also a musician? You’ve probably sung along to some of those catchy songs on Drag Race and not realised that they are actually Ru’s own songs. In this blog post we’re going to look at the music of RuPaul.

Ru released her first album in 1993 called Supermodel of the world, but it wasn’t until 1995, when she collaborated with Elton John on the duet ‘Don’t go breaking my heart’ (Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/7ptAfRrbwr8pzM1oeUsRea?si=q8HgKBQHTgqTxaHrrXDvLA&dl_branch=1) that she scored her first major chart hit.

Since then, RuPaul has released 12 studio albums to date including:

Foxy Lady

Ho Ho Ho (A christmas themed album)

Red Hot

Champion

Glamazon

Born Naked

Realness

Slay Belles

Butch Queen

America

Christmas Party

You’re a winner, baby

Ru also contributed music towards the Netflix series she starred in called ‘AJ and the Queen’. Not surprisingly there’s been lots of remixes and compilation albums release too.
Were you surprised to find out that RuPaul’s music career has been going for almost 30 years? Leighton Buzz Radio plays songs from the 60s to now, so do tune in as you may hear one of Ru’s hits.
