Written by on 11th August 2020

Detail of Routes, participants and donations

With just a couple days to go until 75th Anniversary Of VJ Day on Saturday 15th August, the Rotary Club of Leighton

Linslade are pleased to report that plans are coming together for the Marathon 4 Peace to commemorate this important event and the very special generation who gave so much to ensure our freedom.

Thirteen local charities and organisations including the local Community Policing Team have joined with Rotary in an informal Community Corps to ensure we remember the local men who made the ultimate sacrifice and also raise some money for SSAFA, the forces families charity and also the local organisations who are participating and who work in the Leighton Linslade community 24/7/365.
The Marathon will commence in the centre of Leighton Buzzard at 11am and culminate at 8pm when Invictus Games Multi Medalist Daniel Bingley will hand the scroll containing the names of the fallen to the Chairman of the British Legion to read before the playing of Sunset.

The Marathon participants will visit many areas in Leighton Linslade and Heath & Reach and detailed routes can be found on the Rotary Facebook page, (route plan below)  and in the last week we have been excited to add two supplementary town centre legs , one in the morning and one in the afternoon, which will visit Morrison’s, Tesco’s and the High St.

Rotary President Simon Marshall said
“ We are really excited by the prospect of Saturdays Peace Marathon and have worked really hard to ensure the event is Covid secure. To help us retain the security of the event we request people do not to gather and maintain social
distancing, but do give us a wave and a cheer as participants and the musical support vehicle visit your area.We hope to raise funds for the charities of all the participants and I urge people to support us as much as possible so all these local causes can continue their vital work in our community “

There will be opportunities to donate to SSAFA and the other local charities on the day but the best way is via the virgin money donation page
